We are excited to announce open auditions for a production of The 39 Steps, directed by John Evans.
With a cast consisting of two men and two women…..Oh and by the way the cast play 150 different characters in 33 different scenes-at PACE!
The classic Hitchcock black and white film follows John Buchan’s original novel as does this version. This multi award winning interpretation tells the story of Richard Hannay, a man with a boring life, meets a woman with a thick accent who says she is a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon a mysterious organisation called” The 39 Steps” is hot on Hannay’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale.
Characters:
The show is played by 4 actors;
Richard Hanney - played by the same one man throughout. He is about 40, attractive with a pencil moustache and dresses in the style of the 1935 setting.
One Women - plays Annabella Schmidt (beautiful and appealing) Pamela posh but English Margaret-pretty Scottish girl with a strong accent.
Clown 1 (male) and Clown 2 (female) play all the rest of the parts
Ideally clown 1 is tall and thin and clown 2 is a lot shorter.
Actions as well as words will be as important in casting this play, it will be very physical.
